09 Jun NUEVO-Corporate carbon footprint calculation
NUEVO has completed the corporate carbon footprint calculation for 2020 in cooperation with OPTILOG Advisory Services. The calculation includes all business activities of NUEVO and refers to both production sites, the premix plant and the surplus food processing plant. NUEVO produces 14.000 tons of complementary feed and markets more than 27.000 tons of end products and raw materials annually.
Mr. Nikos Gogorosis, Managing Director of NUEVO, stressed that the evaluation of CO2 emissions is the first step of the wider action plan ‘’NUEVO CO2 neutral 2024’’. The aim is to become the first Greek company in the feed industry with a neutral carbon footprint. Protection of the environment, the adoption of sustainable business practices, the implementation of circular economy in practice and other actions beneficial to the local community are the main goals of the ‘’NUEVO CO2 neutral 2024’’ program and we are delighted to take on such a commitment.”
Dr. Vasilis Zeimpekis, Executive Advisor of OPTILOG Advisory Services, stated: ‘’It was a great pleasure to accept the challenge of calculating the corporate carbon footprint of NUEVO and be part of the ‘’NUEVO CO2 neutral 2024’’ program. This study is based on international standards and is compatible with national legislation regarding the calculation of carbon footprint at corporate level. NUEVO is the first company of the feed sector that sets such a goal and I am sure that more companies in the Greek feed industry will follow.”
The actions of the ‘’NUEVO CO2 neutral 2024’’ program will be specified in due course and will include:
- afforestation in selected areas in cooperation with the municipality of Schimatari and volunteers of the local community
- investments in renewable/green energy sources
- continuing education for the employees
- gradual renewal of the fleet vehicles
- cooperation with our logistics services partners to apply more environmentally friendly policies
